Before I started reading adult books, back in the mid '50s, I was introduced to the genres of fantasy, in the Doctor Dolittle books by Hugh Lofting, and adventure, in a series of books featuring seaman Tod Moran, by Howard Pease, which I thought were really good.

Then there were the Lucky Starr novels by none other than the good doctor himself, Paul French, er, that is, Isaac Asimov. They, not Robert Å. Heinlein's many fine juveniles, were my introduction to science fiction.

Even before that, I remember reading Hans Brinker, or The Silver Skates.

Maybe I'm just too damn old but I never read any of the books mentioned on the web site referenced.

I suspect that my mother and father read some of those to me when I was very young. The only two I actually remember reading on my own (when I was young) are Charlotte's Web and Alice Through the Looking Glass.
